Help End Force-Fed Foie Gras in D.C.

Pro-Animal D.C. is leading a citizen-initiated ballot measure to prohibit the force-feeding of birds and the sale of foie gras in Washington, D.C. We need to collect 29,000 valid signatures before July 6th, and there are multiple different opportunities to volunteer with the campaign.

How Petitioning Shifts Work

Create Your Account

Visit Stampede, Pro-Animal Future’s organizing app, and follow the prompts. If you’ve signed up before, just log in.

Register with the Board of Elections

If you are not a D.C. resident, you must register to petition with the D.C. Board of Elections before your first shift. D.C. residents can skip this step.

Browse Upcoming Shifts

Navigate to the Events tab. Select “Attend” for any shifts that fit your schedule, spots are limited so it’s important to update your RSVP if you can’t make it.

Show Up for Your First Shift

You’ll receive your petition packets and clipboards, get a brief orientation, and shadow an experienced petitioner before heading out. An organizer will be on-site to help.

Keep Collecting

Continue signing up for shifts through Stampede, and make sure to turn in your petitioning pages to the shift organizer before leaving the shift! Your volunteer hours are tracked on our leaderboard, so you can track your progress in real time.

Who can petition? Anyone! You don’t need to be a U.S. citizen to collect signatures. To sign the affidavit as primary circulator, you must be 18 years old by Election Day (November 3rd, 2026). Younger volunteers can petition as long as a D.C. resident 18 or older witnesses signatures and signs their affidavit. There’s always an eligible adult at each shift, making this a great opportunity for teens interested in political activism in D.C. and leadership opportunities in the animal rights movement.

Need community service hours? Pro-Animal Future is a 501(c)(4) organization, but our campaign director can sign off on court-ordered community service hours for volunteers by request.
